etdot Plane Finder AR is an iPhone app which lets you point your phone at an airplane in the sky and it will report back details such as speed, source and destination locations, elevation, distance from YOUR phone, etc. Unfortunately the U.S. is poorly equipped with the technology to support this sort of thing when compared to other countries… for now.
